The incumbent of this position will provide the technical expertise in epidemiology, disease ecology, agricultural economics or a related discipline in the development and application of risk analysis methods and models.
The incumbent is responsible for designing and implementing project plans associated with analytical epidemiological methods that use statistically valid data compiled on the prevalence and cost of diseases and other indicators of the health of U.S. livestock.
Functions as an expert in risk analysis, emergency response strategies, livestock disease simulation modeling, and analytical epidemiology.
Provides scientific insight into the development of defensible regulatory analyses.
Keeps abreast of advances in the field of analytical epidemiology, to identify the changing information needs, and to research the potential impact of the integration of such advances into VS programs.
Analyzes data resulting from program/projects to assure scientific accessibility and defensibility as well as write scientific reports about risk analysis techniques and epidemiological findings for publication in refereed professional journals.

Responsible for working with and creating good relationships with other Federal agencies, State officials, international agencies, livestock and poultry industry officials, university faculty, and many other public and private organizations and individuals.

Attends scientific and industry meetings to keep abreast of emerging animal health issues.

*Summary of duties*: The incumbent serves as an Agency specialist in epidemiology with responsibility in the planning, development, and implementation of the epidemiological delivery system, including animal health monitoring, disease surveillance, risk assessment, and response to emerging issues. Works closely with staff veterinarians, animal health technicians, state officials,  statisticians, and economists in the field application of epidemiological principles in the control and eradication of domestic and exotic diseases of livestock and/or poultry.  This is a technical position with extensive review and evaluation responsibilities for the Veterinary Services(VS)mission.

Georgia Equine Veterinary Services (GEVS) in Canton, GA, offers a unique opportunity for entry into a newly constructed, 4500+ ft2, single-operatory, modern equine surgical center. We seek a full-time, ACVS boarded equine surgeon to start December 2014.
GEVS is an established, successful, single-owner, equine specific ambulatory practice in the greater Atlanta, GA area. GEVS currently has 2 vets offering ambulatory and emergency medicine. Our surgical center will provide emergency and elective surgery to GEVS and referral clients. Caseload includes all breeds and disciplines with heavy emphasis on performance jumpers and dressage.
Critical skills: positive team-member relationship mindset, solution based communication skills, timely patient care and timely client contact, exceptional surgical and lameness skill, effective communication with both professional and lay horsemen, and willingness to develop long-term relationships with clients.

The Arizona Department of Agriculture (ADA) is currently recruiting for a full-time Assistant State Veterinarian; this position will report to the Arizona State Veterinarian of the Animal Services Division (ASD).   


The Arizona Department of Agriculture has a major role in protecting both Arizona citizens and the health and welfare of the state’s livestock industry.  This position will enhance the capabilities of the Animal Health and Welfare Program through surveillance and traceability grant programs. 


This position will implement surveillance programs for avian and livestock diseases (ALDS) in order to better prepare and respond to livestock emergencies by reviewing, revising, formulating, affecting, managing and implementing policies and procedures related to foreign animal diseases (FAD); the position requires the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment to determine training needs, design training course and training materials; educational outreach to private veterinarians, tribal veterinarians and all other external or internal partners.  Training will include proper sample collection, preparation and preservation of chain of custody.  This position will maintain confidentiality of risk assessments of agroterrorism threats and confidentiality of all records and financial data reviewed during investigation assessments. 


The candidate will establish regulations for improving the traceability of livestock in order to provide the necessary environment in which state animal health officials can guide the development of a modern animal movement and disease surveillance system.  This will include implementing a tagging system, distributing traceability literature, training field staff, and collecting/maintaining data.   Maintain confidential relationship with the State Veterinarian and ASD Associate Director.  Position will also explore, negotiate and prepare cooperative agreements or grant opportunities with outside agencies (e.g USDA) to continue position objectives.  Financial and budgetary management of grants will be required.
