MRI
MRI
provides superb soft tissue contrast and multiplanar imaging. Since MRI uses
electromagnetic radiation, there are no potential harmful effects due to
ionizing radiation. In most cases, MRI can not be utilized by patients with
metallic foreign bodies, prostheses, and cardiac pacemakers. BIRF has access to
several MRI systems.
MR Spectroscopy
With the aid of Magnetic Resonance
Imaging (MRI), a tissue spectrum can be obtained. A MRI spectrum of a given
tissue provides information about the molecular and chemical structures of the
tissue. Peak size and placement within the measured spectrum provides
information on how an atom is bonded to a molecule. Normal and malignant tissues
exhibit differences in their spectra. |
