Service Cores
Clinical Studies Core (CSC)
The Clinical Studies Core's mission is to support interactions between clinical and basic research groups within North Carolina State University and to expand collaborative relationships beyond the university with practicing veterinarians, animal owners, and industry partners. The CSC offers support through the following services:
- Assistance with all aspects of clinical investigations, including publicity and case recruitment, patient enrollment, patient visits, sample collection and processing and patient follow-up
- Resources for investigators in the design and implementation of clinical studies.
- Oversight for a repository of veterinary tissue samples to support ongoing and developing studies
- A biospecimen procurement service for researchers
Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) Biocontainment Facility
BSL3 Biocontainment Facility consists of two large laboratories each with 3 work spaces built around biosafety cabinets. Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) agents are those requiring containment of airborne bacteria, viruses, or toxins, therefore the design and administration of the BSL3 Biocontainment Facility follows strict federal regulations with local oversight provided by the NCSU Institutional Biosafety Committee. These and other factors assure the community that infectious disease research will not result in occupational hazards for the occupants of the research building. The BSL3 Biocontainment Facility is available for use by the NCSU community.
Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Laboratory
The NCSU Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Laboratory is located on the third floor of the main CVM building. The laboratory provides instrumentation and assistance for multi-parameter flow cytometric analysis and sorting. It is available for use to all NCSU researchers and to those outside the NCSU community and operates as a by appointment, fee for service laboratory.
