Canine/Feline Oncologic Reconstructive Surgery Laboratory

shepherd 24-hours post-op

Saturday, June 27, 2009

This laboratory will focus on challenging oncologic resections and reconstructions, which veterinary surgeons are frequently called upon to perform. Topics to be covered include feline intrascapular fibrosarcomas, thoracic and abdominal body wall resection and reconstruction, hemipelvectomy and caudal maxillectomy. Appropriate analgesic and adjuvant therapies will also be discussed.

The objective of this laboratory is to review the surgical procedures that are available for treating a variety of canine/feline tumors. Participants with little surgical experience will likely not feel comfortable performing these procedures on their own even after the laboratory, but they will gain an appreciation for the preoperative evaluation, operative technique, postoperative needs and prognosis associated with these conditions. Short didactic presentations will be followed by hands-on labs with fixed specimens.

Registration

Registration for this course is $349 paid before June 3, 2009, and $399 paid after June 3. Registration includes lectures, lunch, and proceedings on CD-ROM. There will be an extra charge of $20 for printed proceedings. A registration form is available here. Class is limited to 21 veterinarians with a strong interest in surgery. Participants must be DVMs/VMDs.

Continuing Education

This course offers nine-and-a-quarter (9.25) hours of CVME for veterinarians.
