CVM Counseling Services provides counseling and consultation services to veterinary students, graduate students, and house officers of the NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine community through a safe, supportive and confidential environment. Clients are encouraged to use counseling to explore personal, interpersonal, academic and professional concerns. We also provide educational programming on wellness, mental health and academic topics of interest to students, faculty and staff. Counseling Services is staffed by Dr. Betsy Taylor, a licensed psychologist. Information shared with her remains confidential according to North Carolina state law and the ethical principles of the American Psychological Association.

Confidentiality

In order to provide effective and up-to-date services, the Psychologist may sometimes consult with colleagues at the NC State University Counseling Center about her work. Otherwise, information revealed in counseling, even the information that a person has made an appointment, is not disclosed to others unless the client provides written authorization for that information to be released. The exceptions to this practice are:

Schedule an Appointment

Counseling Services is located in Room A-247 of Student Services and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Those wishing to use Counseling Services are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 513-6008. Dr. Betsy Taylor, the CVM Psychologist, is happy to take walk-ins, should her schedule allow. Appointment times outside of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. may also be scheduled. If n case of a mental health emergency outside of office hours, please contact Campus Police at 911 or 515-3000. Campus Police will contact the on-call counselor, who is a member of the NC State University Counseling Center staff. 24-hour assistance is also available by calling Holly Hill/Charter at 919-250-7000 or by reporting to the nearest hospital emergency room.
