Research Area

Allergic diseases and nematode biology

Current Research

My current research expertise is in allergic diseases and nematode biology. Regarding allergic disease research I have built this on the development of canine x murine and porcine x murine heterohybridomas. One of these produces canine monoclonal IgE specific for a filarial nematode antigen. Another produces porcine monoclonal IgE specific for ascaris nematode allergen. Using these pure IgE proteins I have developed a panel of mouse monoclonal antibodies against heat stable epitopes of canine IgE. Peptides generated from the sequences of the variable regions of selected antibodies bind canine IgE epitopes and show promise of being therapeutic in preventing allergic disease in the dog. The unlimited supply of canine and porcine IgE of known antigen specificities has directed my research toward producing diagnostic and therapeutic products for dogs, and developing the pig model of allergic disease. In addition, I am planning to use this same approach to develop reagents for diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease in horses.
