Dr. Monte B. McCaw
Dr. Monte Bruce McCaw was born January 22nd, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The son of Gene and Ramona McCaw, he was raised on an Iowa livestock farm near Clarence, Iowa and went on to Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he received his D.V.M. degree in 1980. He was a large animal private practice veterinarian in Iowa for four years. Then he went on to continue his training at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. He joined the N.C. State College of Veterinary Medicine as a visiting assistant professor in 1985. After receiving his Ph. D. in swine virology from the University of Minnesota, he accepted the position of assistant professor in swine medicine at NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. Dr. McCaw became an associate professor of swine medicine in 1995, a position in which he served until his death.
Monte was considered a leader in his scholarly area of infectious disease of breeding swine producers particulary swine virology and immunology and was a committed and talented teacher. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lundy-Fetterman Scholarship Endowment in support of swine medicine students through the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation.
