Careers in Laboratory Animal Medicine/Science
Laboratory Animal Science is a field of science devoted to the production, care, and study of laboratory animals used in research and education. A career in Laboratory Animal Science should be considered seriously by people who care about animals, animal welfare, and the research/teaching use of animals to improve the health of both humans and animals. The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), a nonprofit membership association, provides an excellent forum for the exchange of information and expertise in the care and use of laboratory animals. AALAS has an excellent site on career opportunities, which range from animal caretaker/technician/technologist to supervisor/manager to animal health technician to laboratory animal veterinarian. The American Socitey of Labroatory Animal Practitioners (ASLAP) has useful information on veterinary careers in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
Please contact the LAR Director or Manager, or any LAR employee, for more information on career opportunities in Laboratory Animal Science.
