Anesthesia Section

Mission

The goals of this section are to provide safe and progressive anesthesia to patients of the veterinary teaching hospital; to train students, interns and residents in anesthesia techniques and theory; to advance veterinary anesthesia through research; and to be a resource for local veterinarians through case consultation. 

Faculty and Staff

The Anesthesia Section is led by 5 Anesthesiologists, all of whom are Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (DACVAA), and include Lysa Pam Posner, DVM, DACVAA; Cliff Swanson, DVM, MS, DACVAA; Nigel Campbell BVetMed, PhD, DACVIM, DACVAA, MRCVS; Kristen Messenger, DVM, DACVAA; and Kate Bailey, DVM, DACVAA. The Anesthesia Section is also supported by 3 anesthesiology residents; 9 licensed veterinary technicians, 2 of whom hold specialty certification in veterinary anesthesia (VTS); and a dedicated hospital case scheduler.
