Cyrano's Project Team

 

Project coordinated by Denis Marcellin-Little, Professor, Orthopedic

The collaborators involved in this project include:

1. Who: Dr. Anke Langenbach, Diplomate of the American College of
Veterinary Surgeons
From: the Hope Center, Vienna, Va -

Involvement: Referred the patient, assisted in the logistics and
preparation for surgery, will assist with postoperative care
Other: Dr. Langenbach Intends to be present at the time of surgery.

2.Who: Dr. Steve Withrow, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons
Where: Director, Animal Cancer Center, Colorado State University -  http://www.csuanimalcancercenter.org/
Involvment: Have coordinated Cyrano's care during radiation therapy, have facilitated the transition towards this total knee replacement surgery, is actively collaborating for the overall management of Cyrano's medical situation.


3. Who: Dr. Ola Harrysson, Associate Professor
From: Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NCSU
Involvement: Design and fabrication of the femoral and tibial
components, coordinated the fabrication of femoral and tibial
components with EOS, Krailling, Germany, fabrication of bone cutting
jigs, fabrication of bolt placement jigs

4. Who: Tim Horn, PhD candidate
From: Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NCSU
Involvement: Design and fabrication of the femoral and tibial
components, including the inclusion of porous surfaces for bone
ingrowth, fabrication of bone cutting jigs, fabrication of bolt
placement jigs

5. Who: Christopher Sidebotham
From: President, BioMedtrix LLC, Boonton, NJ - http://www.biomedtrix.com/
Involvement: Design of femoral and tibial components, looking bolts,
mobile bearing polyethylene component, bone cutting guides, oversaw
secondary machining (finishing) of the tibial and femoral components,
the polyethylene inserts and locking bolts [performed in part by
BioMedtrix and subcontracted through BioMedtrix in part]

6. Who: Greg Van Der Meulen
From: Director of R&D, BioMedtrix LLC,
Involvement: Design of femoral and tibial components, looking bolts,
mobile bearing polyethylene component, bone cutting guides

7. Who: Dr. Bill Liska, , Diplomate of the American College of
Veterinary Surgeons
From: Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists -

Involvement - Designed the BioMedtrix Total Knee Replacement system,
has performed several custom total knee in dogs. Provided input from
past experiences, assisted with implant design, will participate in
the surgical procedure

8. Who: Caroline Webster
From: Undergraduate, BME, NCSU
Involvement: Summer work in biomodeling, focusing on the design of
drill guides for the tibial and femoral components

9. Who: EOS (EOS GmbH - Electro Optical Systems) / "Bullemer, Martin"

Involvement: Fabricated the femoral and tibial components in cobalt
chromium alloy using direct metal laser sintering

10. Who: Dr. Duncan Lascelles, Diplomate of the American College of
Veterinary Surgeons
From: Orthopedic Surgeon, Professor of Surgery and Pain Management, NCSU, CVM
Involvement: Consulted for the design of the implant, assisted with
surgical planning, overseeing the pain management before, during, and
after surgery. Will participate in the surgical procedure.

11. Who: Dr. Simon Roe, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons
From: Orthopedic Surgeon, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, NCSU, CVM
Involvement: Consulted for the design of the implant, assisted with
surgical planning. Will participate in the surgical procedure.

12. Who: Nancy Doyle, MPT
From: Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists -

Involvement: Will collaborate with Dr. Marcellin-Little on the
rehabilitation plan after surgery

13. Who: Dr. Toni Kwan
Form: Senior Resident, Small Animal Surgery, NCSU CVM
Involvement: Assisted in surgical planning and rehearsals, is involved
in investigating graft options. Will participate in the surgical
procedure.

14. Who: Dr. Joanne Tuohy
From: Resident, Small Animal Surgery, NCSU CVM
Involvement: Assisted in surgical planning and rehearsals. Coordinated
medical information. Will participate in the surgical procedure
(authorization from her supervisor is pending).

15. Who: Jonathan Hash
From: Technician, Orthopedic Research Laboratory, NCSU CVM
Involvement: Provided technical support with the surgical rehearsals

16: Who: Dawn Kaplan
From: Clinical Technician, Orthopedic Service, NCSU CVM VHC
Involvement: Logistic and technical support with planning the surgical
procedure, ordering instruments

Special thanks to Mary Clarke, Mindi James, and Paul Belcher,
CVM sterile supply for assistance with cleaning and sterilizing
implants, guides, and instruments; to Christine Poindexter from the
radiology service for CT scan assistance; to Pamela Ballentine,
Emma Power from surgery service for logistical support.
