A syndrome of protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) and/or protein-losing
nephropathy (PLN) occurs in related soft-coated wheaten terriers (SCWT).
The objectives of our research program are:
- To determine the early manifestations of this syndrome so that
affected dogs can be recognized earlier.
- To determine the mode of inheritance of this syndrome so that effective
breeding programs can be designed that will eliminate this syndrome.
- To investigate the pathogenesis of this disease.
- To design effective treatment protocols for affected dogs.

(including pertinent sample submission) and recommended treatment.
