1. Fecal alpha1-protease inhibitor
2. Tissue samples of kidney, small intestine,
etc.
1. Fecal alpha1-protease inhibitor
We recommend that all SCWT have fecal alpha1-protease inhibitor
concentrations evaluated on an annual basis. If any result from a 3-day
sample collection is above the control range of 0.023-5-67 µg/g, the results
are consistent with PLE. Other disorders that cause protein loss into
the intestines, besides the breed specific disease, can also cause these
test results to be abnormally high.
Feces for this test must be submitted through a veterinarian using containers
provided by the Gastrointestinal Function Test Laboratory. Instructions
for submission must be followed exactly. We request that you attach a
note to the submission form giving the laboratory permission to release
the results to us. Strict confidentiality will be maintained. Submission
forms and containers can be obtained by your veterinarian through the
testing laboratory:

We will submit samples for owners. However, we must add $15 to the cost
of the test to cover the cost of supplies and shipping. This additional
cost may be less if samples from multiple dogs are submitted at the same
time. Please contact us for a fecal collection packet.
