Sample Preparation

VANOX AHS-3

The VANOX AHS-3 Photomicroscope can record images on film or record digital images from a Sony 3-CCD video camera (live imaging of moving samples) or a Spot RT Slider cooled-CCD digital camera, which produces high resolution images of subjects that are not moving. The captured images can be analyzed with a morphometry program (Image Pro Plus) or filed in an image archiving program (Pax-it). Samples can be viewed with bright field optics, polarizing optics, or epifluorescence. Some of the different sample types recorded by this instrument are shown below:

Hematoxylin and Eosin stained image of a rat liver showing an inflamatory response.

Toluidine Blue O stained semithin (0.5 um) section of a perfused rat kidney showing proximal tubules and glomerulus.

Bovine pulmonary artery endothelial cells (BPAEC) stained with DAPI (for nuclei). (from Molecular Probes)

Bovine pulmonary artery endothelial cells (BPAEC) stained with Mitotracker Red CMXRos for mitochondria and BODIPY FL phallacidin for F-actin. (from Molecular Probes)
