Program Description

The internship is intended to be a clinical experience emphasizing activities in equine internal medicine and surgery in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The distribution of effort will be approximately equally amongst equine internal medicine and surgery. Additional electives will be available in food animal medicine and surgery, theriogenology, anesthesia, radiology and ophthalmology.

The chosen intern will be expected to participate in teaching of senior veterinary students in equine clinical medicine and surgery, undertake clinical case care, equine emergency duties, and other assigned duties. The intern will work closely with, and under the supervision of the equine medicine and surgery faculty of the Department of Clinical Sciences.

This is a one-year, 12 month appointment. The chosen intern will receive 12 paid days of vacation to be taken before the end of the appointment. An intern advisory committee is responsible for maintaining and monitoring progress in the program. The intern will seek the approval of the advisory committee before using his/her vacation leave.

There is no formal course work included in this program. Eligibility for North Carolina State licensure is required. Professional liability insurance is provided.
