Visiting Students

The College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University welcomes visiting DVM students to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in both the Small and Large Animal service areas through the visiting student externship program.

Externships/Preceptorships

The visiting externship program is open to current DVM students in their fourth or final year of study in good standing at US or International veterinary colleges. For more information on scheduling and availability email the following information to Tammy Ball no fewer than 7 weeks in advance of the date you would like to start the externship: name, address, phone number, email address, service area of interest, and intended dates of externship. Please review the list of available clinical rotations before sending your inquiry.

PLEASE NOTE: According to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations, guest DVM students present in the United States in visitor status are not allowed to work or perform any productive activities at the College of Veterinary Medicine, but may engage in supervised observation at the College.

Internships

If you are interested in a short visit to consider NCSU-CVM as an internship opportunity please contact Dr. Karyn Harrell, Small Animal Intern Coordinator at karyn_harrell@ncsu.edu or Dr. Mat Gerard, Equine Medicine and Surgery Intern Coordinator at mat_gerard@ncsu.edu or Dr. Kevin Anderson, Ruminant Medicine Intern Coordinator at kevin_anderson@ncsu.edu.

Visiting Clinicians

The Office of Continuing Education and Outreach offers a Visiting Clinician Program for North Carolina veterinarians and international veterinarians.

The Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certification program is accepted by all state veterinary regulatory boards and the federal government as meeting, either in part or full, the educational prerequisite for licensure or certain types of employment, respectively.

Internships and Residencies are available in our Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Additional information is provided by the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians' MATCH Program.
