Equine Health Center at
Southern Pines
The Equine Health Center at Southern Pines (EHC-SP), located in Southern Pines, NC, is a satellite campus of the NC State University's (NCSU) College of Veterinary Medicine. The EHC-SP offers CEM import quarantine, equine reproduction, ophthalmology, podiatry and rehabilitation, and diagnostic testing services. Lloyd P. Tate Jr. serves as Medical Director. The EHC-SP staff members are competent and professional.
The USDA-certified quarantine services for imported mares and stallions tests for Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM). CEM quarantine is required for all mares and stallions over 731 days of age that are imported from countries infected with CEM. It is the only certified CEM quarantine site in North Carolina and one of a small number along the East Coast.
The Equine Reproduction Clinic provides services for equine infertility, embryo transfer, semen collection and transport, artificial insemination, reproductive emergencies, and reproductive surgery. The Ophthalmology Clinic provides a full range of diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic services for eye disorders, to include cataract removal. Podiatry & Rehabilitation services include assessment of difficult lameness and shoeing problems. Diagnostic Testing assists veterinarians by providing EIA and EVA results.
The EHC-SP is located in Southern Pines, NC, about 60 miles south of the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh. It is within easy access to both I-95 and I-40, and is centrally located along the Atlantic Coast.
