VTH Employee Benefits

(offered to employees of the CVM only – not university wide)

Hills Food Room:

The Hills Company donates dog and cat food to SCAVMA (Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association), who in turn sells it to faculty, staff and students as a fundraiser.  See www.ncstatehills.com for additional information.

Wellness Clinic:

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital offers a Wellness Clinic for routine care of the  healthy personal pets of faculty, staff and students.  These clinics are scheduled three times per month on Saturdays from 8:30 until 11:30.  Services offered include:  physical exam, routine vaccinations, routine bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal flotation, toenail trimming, etc.

Employee Discount:

All VTH employees receive a 20% discount on services provided at the VTH.  In addition, if your total bill is over $200, you may make payments on your bill (a minimum of 10% of the total bill each month for ten months) with no interest.  If your bill is under $200, you must pay it at the time of service.

Central Supply:

VTH employees can purchase animal health care items for their personal use from Central Supply (with a 20% discount).  The employee must have an account in UVIS, and pay for their items before picking up from Central.

Pharmacy:

The VTH Pharmacy sells Over the Counter (OTC) items such as flea preventative, shampoo, nutritional supplements, etc. to staff at very reasonable prices.

Uniforms:

The VTH will pay for 5 sets of scrubs, or other required attire deemed appropriate by your supervisor, when you are hired.  These uniforms are updated annually as needed.

Vaccinations for Employees:

The VTH pays for employees who have direct animal contact to receive a rabies pre-exposure series, and follow-up titers every 2 years.  A tetanus booster every 10 years is also paid for.

Licensing Requirements:

For employees who hold Veterinary Technician licenses or other licenses applicable to their position, the VTH pays for examination fees and license renewal fees.

Continuing Education:

Each fiscal year, a specific budget is established to pay for employee CE.  In November of each year, the North Carolina Veterinary Conference is held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Research Triangle Park.  Staff who are interested in attending this conference can also have their registration fee paid for by the VTH.  For more information on the conference, contact Kathryn Byrd in the office of Continuing Education, at 513-6366.
